OUR STORY

At the Southern Mallee Suns, we know that football and netball is the life-blood of our community and thanks to a diverse collection of passionate people from across the Southern Mallee region, we have worked collaboratively to create a club that everyone can be proud of.

OUR STORY IS JUST BEGINNING AND THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT

Keeping opportunities for sport and recreation alive in our communities, is a key focus of the Club. It is also important that both netball and football, are provided for seniors, juniors, families, and supporters. There is strong recognition in this Club, that physical exercise, healthy competition, social outings, and a family friendly atmosphere are critical to promoting good mental health and wellbeing for our people. Providing for our people and our communities, is what we have and will always be about.

The Southern Mallee Football and Netball Club (known as the Southern Mallee Suns) was formed in October of 2022. The Club comprises of members from the Pinnaroo and Lameroo communities. These two communities once had separate clubs in the Mallee League/Association, however because of the sudden closure of the Mallee Football League and Netball Association at the end of the 2022 season, these two communities rallied together, aligned, and the new Club was formed. The Southern Mallee Suns will participate in the River Murray Football League and Netball Association in 2023 and beyond.

Pinnaroo and Lameroo are rural townships located within the Southern Mallee District, 200-240kms east of Adelaide. Individually, they are each strong and proud horticulture and agriculture-based communities with growing populations thanks to their thriving rural industries. The Lameroo and Pinnaroo communities are part of the same Council region being the Southern Mallee District Council, and the two communities work closely together for schooling, childcare, healthcare services and several other extra-curricular activities. The two towns are both strong in their history, followings, and love for competitive sport. The passions that once made Lameroo and Pinnaroo arch-rivals on the field and court, are what unites these communities for the future!

OCTOBER 2022

We announced our official club colours and mascot.

The Southern Mallee Suns Club colours are orange, charcoal and white. The ‘orange’ Club colour was popular amongst members given the Southern Mallee District Councils recently adopted branding colour of orange. In addition, the old Pinnaroo colours were red, black and white, and the Lameroo colours were yellow and black. The colours red and yellow make orange, and this was another key driver to the popularity of orange as the new club colour.
