"The more that you read, the more things you will know.

The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." (Dr Seuss)

Every week, your homework will be to read and complete your reading journal. You don't need to record how much you have read, but something you learned, a quotation which inspired you, or, best of all, a question that you have. These questions could relate to what will happen next in the narrative, why something occurred, some vocabulary you found challenging or an idea for something else you want to read to find out more. Your teacher(s) will discuss your reading journal with you regularly.

One of the most challenging things for students seems to be choosing what to read. Using the buttons above, you can find recommended reading lists. The recommendations include novels, short stories, fictional extracts, non-fiction, non-fiction extracts, poetry and drama and are (loosely!) linked to the focus for each term's topics.

Please also use the discussion pin board attached to the term's homepage. Reading is something that should be shared, just like recommended TV programmes, films or games. This is more than just homework, it's the Year 9 Book Club!
