It also includes Elementary Physical Education lesson plans, resources & videos, a link to the American Heart Association website, and Annual Field Day information.

Computer Apps

South O'Brien Computer Applications and Keyboarding classes meet once per 6 day cycle. Keyboarding is an essential computer literacy skill. We cannot create an educational environment that requires keyboarding skills and not teach keyboarding to students. South O'Brien School District supports and encourages keyboarding. With formal keyboarding instruction beginning in Transitional Kindergarten, our goal is for all South O'Brien students to key by touch using correct technique and meet end of level benchmarks when they leave elementary school.

South O'Brien is in the process of becoming a Google School. Along with keyboarding, 4th - 6th grade students are learning Google Apps for Education which includes Gmail, Classroom, Drive, Search, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Maps, Drawing, Forms and YouTube.

Keyboarding Benchmarks:

2nd Grade: 5 wpm

3rd grade: 10 wpm

4th grade: 15 wpm

5th grade: 20 wpm

6th grade: 25 wpm

Physical Education

South O'Brien Physical Education classes meet twice per 6 day cycle. Through our physical education program, students will learn a variety of important life skills which include movement skills, knowledge, and behavior/social skills, over the course of each school year. Some of these include: locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative skills, team-building, social interaction skills, and cognitive concepts linked to fitness, wellness, skill development, and social skills appropriate to each grade level. The acquisition of fundamental motor skills are essential to improving each students overall fitness and are key in leading an enjoyable lifestyle. All students will develop an understanding of the importance of lifelong fitness and skill building concepts.

Classes are based on activities that promote fun and more importantly, learning. By participating in a variety of enjoyable physical activities, students discover the benefits and strength of living a healthy and active lifestyle. All students should be able to use their physical education class to develop a sense of creativity, imagination, and unique expression.
