About Me

Author. Editor. Reader. Traveler. Teacher.

For the last 20 years, my world has revolved around teaching, writing, and literature. First and foremost, I'm an avid reader. But I've also written a traditionally published novel and have another series on submission with publishing houses right now.

I'm a card-carrying grammar nerd who believes in knowing the rules well enough to make them work for me. My love for travel and language and other cultures has instilled a love of diversity and an appreciation for differences. While we lived in Europe, I chose to homeschool my own kids in order to tailor their education to their interests and goals . I also launched a successful career in professional editing and continued teaching as a volunteer in co-ops and tutoring situations, both abroad and in the States. I've taught writing techniques to everyone from middle schoolers to award-winning authors.

It comes to this: I am a life-long learner myself, and I try to instill a love and belief in all my students (and friends!) that to stop learning is to stop living.

Every person has a unique skill set and giftedness, everyone their own obstacles. It's important for each of us to own our learning process, because when we accomplish something ourselves, we use it more, take more pride in it, and risk more to keep going. I love helping students discover what they're good at, to approach subjects in a way that makes sense to them, to think critically, and to enjoy the learning process.
