Dear W.O.S. Families,
It's been wonderful reading to your children and helping them discover their reader's identities this past year. Now that it's summer, there are so many amazing opportunities for students to stay engaged. This year’s New York State summer reading theme Unearth a Story highlights the joy of adventures and making discoveries in one's own community. While Summer Reading is all about curiosity and wonder, it’s also an important strategy to keep minds sharp. It helps prevent the "Summer Slide," where students can lose academic ground during the summer break. Regular reading enhances vocabulary and fosters a lifelong love of learning.
Please enjoy these resources to help your children stay connected to reading over the summer. These include suggested reading lists, activities, links to the local public libraries and a Bingo reading challenge!
Wishing you a joyful summer full of fireworks, ice cream, swimming and plenty of books!
Warmly,
Mrs. MacCullough, Library Media Specialist
