About Sonia
Dr. Sonia Khetarpaul is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence. She earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and has established a distinguished academic career spanning data science, spatio-temporal data mining, natural language processing, information retrieval, and large language models.
Dr. Sonia Khetarpaul's research lies at the intersection of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Human-Centered Computing. Her work focuses on developing intelligent methods for mining and analyzing large-scale spatial, temporal, textual, and social data to address real-world challenges. Her research spans spatio-temporal data mining, urban computing, natural language processing, information retrieval, and machine learning, with applications in smart transportation, mobility analytics, and decision support systems. More recently, she has been investigating large language models, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and domain-adaptive AI solutions for education, healthcare, and legal technologies. Her research combines methodological innovation with practical impact, emphasizing scalable, explainable, and socially beneficial AI systems.
Dr. Khetarpaul was awarded the prestigious IBM Ph.D. Fellowship. She has published in leading international journals and conferences and collaborates on interdisciplinary research that bridges theory and practice. As an educator and mentor, she is committed to nurturing the next generation of researchers and innovators, fostering critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and impactful technological solutions.
