Grades: 1st-6th Time: 9:00am to 12:00pm
Calling all STEAM enthusiasts and innovators!
If you enjoy STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) this class is for you! Mrs. Cuevas, Mrs. Dixon, Mrs. Amos, Mrs. Anastasio, and Ms. Rosenthal are teaming up to lead students through our hands-on, interactive, and fun STEAM Playground!
We will work on utilizing our natural curiosity to explore, learn, and create in our STEAM Playground. Students will rotate through our 4 STEAM Play Areas that will include coding, robotics, Makey Makey, LittleBits, circuitry, design challenges, and more! After students have explored the different STEAM Play Areas rotations, they will get to have flexibility and choice in which area they would like to dive deeper in their learning.

Meet Your Teachers
Christine Dixon (Weeks 1 and 2)
I am the Innovation Coordinator TOSA for Double Peak K8 School. I lead the Innovation Program for all TK-8 grades in the area of technology, coding, robotics, engineering, design thinking, and making in our school’s Makerspace. I design the lessons and then co-teach with teachers TK-5 in the Innovation Lab and Makerspace.
Melissa Cuevas (Weeks 1 and 2)
I am a third grade teacher at Knob Hill Elementary School. I love incorporating computer science into classroom lessons and giving students a chance to create and design using the latest teaching tools available. This is my third summer teaching LEAP and I am super excited to filming opportunities into the week! I will be focusing on stop motion animation, film production with green screen applications, and robotics.
Katie Amos (Weeks 1 and 2)
Happy Summer! I am a third 3rd grade at Knob Hill and have a passion for innovation and thinking outside the box. I have been implementing STEAM like teaching for the past 5 years and find that it engages students and helps them find their "inner" classroom purpose. I love taking the "LEAP" with a team and cannot wait to work with your kiddos.
Marla Rosenthal (Week 1)
I am the Innovation Specialist/TOSA at Discovery Elementary. I currently run our Makerspace and Innovation Lab for TK-5th grade using a wide variety of activities from coding, design thinking, STEM Challenges, Robotics and 3D Printing. I also serve as the Lead Tech Teacher on campus to help facilitating technology integration in all classrooms. I facilitate a weekly Student Tech Squad where students learn new technology and help push it out to the rest of the school.
Laurie Anastasio (Week 2)
I teach 3rd grade and am the Tech Lead Teacher at San Elijo Elementary School. I started the Tech Team at San Elijo, exploring and learning Google apps, coding, and robotics with students. I also organized the Hour of Code and Global Codeathon at our school. Students from the program have presented at Teacher Conferences and at CSUSM STEM Saturday. I'm excited to share innovative, fun technology for kids this summer.
