Class overview
Algebra II |A2
Algebra 2 further expands a student’s understanding of functions and function types developed in Algebra 1. In particular, cubic, exponential, inverse, logarithmic, piecewise, and radical functions are studied. Students explore techniques for representing and solving systems of equations, including graphically, algebraically, and through the use of matrices. In addition, Algebra 2 includes a more indepth focus on using statistics to understand data and make decisions.
Throughout the course, students explore the structures of and interpret functions and other mathematical models. Algebra 2 topics will build upon previous knowledge requiring students to reason, solve, and represent mathematical concepts in multiple ways; i.e., graphically, numerically, and algebraically. Modeling and real-world problems are introduced throughout the course with standards written to encourage the use of math to answer problems students will encounter in life.
Mathematical Reasoning for Decision Making |MR
Applications and modeling using mathematics are the primary foci of this course. Throughout the course, students explore mathematical content in the context of applications to the real-world. Topics will build upon previous knowledge requiring students to reason, solve, and represent mathematical concepts in multiple ways to encourage the use of math to answer problems students will encounter in life. This course is best intended for students who are planning to attend a College of Applied Technology, military service, or enter the workforce immediately following graduation.
Statistics | S
Statistics is designed to introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. This course serves as a 4th year mathematics credit and it is aligned with the Statewide Dual Credit Probability and Statistics Course Learning Objectives.
About me
I have been teaching Mathematics on the High School level for 40 years. I have taught all areas. I have a Mathematics degree from Middle Tennessee State University and an Educational Leadership Masters from Tennessee Technology University. I retired in 2020, but returned to the classroom part-time. I enjoy math and hope to share that with you this year.
I am married to Melody. I am a father of two and the grandfather of three. I love them all tremendously.
I spend much of my time at church where I serve as a deacon and a cook for AWANAs.

Mr. Tackett’s Classroom Expectations
1. I will follow directions when given the first time.
2. I will raise my hand and wait until called upon before speaking.
3. I will never get out of my seat without permission.
4. I will take care of any equipment that is given to me. This includes the desk that I am assigned.
5. I will keep my hands and feet to myself.
6. I will be prepared for class every day.
7. I will be in my seat before the tardy bell.
8. I will not leave my seat until I have been dismissed by Mr. Tackett.
9. I will not do work from any other class during this class time.
10. I will not bring any food or drink (except water) into this classroom.
11. I will not have my cell phone, headphones, or earbuds out at anytime while in this classroom.
