Express your curiosity and creativity

Are all human beings born free and equal in dignity and rights? Do all human beings have an inherent dignity worthy of respect? Is recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world? Throughout October, take part in fun, easy, creative activities based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We’ll unveil the results of our collective efforts on December 10 in celebration of Human Rights Day. Participants will be entered into a raffle worth $25 each. Three winners will be announced on Human Rights Day.

1. Universal Declaration of Human Rights Video Reel

Create an informal, short video of yourself reading an article of your choice from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights followed by one sentence explaining why you chose that article. Record your video on your phone or similar device — and speak in any language you like. See the Make a Video tab for instructions and sample videos. The deadline to submit is October 31!

2. Creative Workshops:

(Re)visioning the Future of Human Rights

Imagine the world in 2076 — fifty years from now. How might we conceive of human rights? Bring your creativity and curiosity to explore whether and how to update the visionary 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Through hands-on, individual and small-group activities we’ll create a gallery of images and scenes looking towards a new declaration of human rights — or maybe something entirely different.

About the UDHR:

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the UDHR on December 10, 1948, in the wake of the Second World War. Drafted by representatives from all regions of the world, the Declaration sets out, for the first time, the fundamental human rights to be universally protected, asserting: “[R]ecognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.” The UDHR has been translated into over 500 languages.
