6th & 7th grade Science

Class Syllabus

Welcome!

– to science at St Mark Catholic School. I look forward to getting to know you and sharing my love of science. This will be a hands-on collaborative class where we will design and conduct investigations, analyze data, use models, simulations, and technology to understand our world.

Work Policy:

1. Materials: Bring your pencil pouch with markers, scissors & glue, binder and Chromebook to class each day.

2. Organization: Students are expected to update their table of contents and record homework assignments at the beginning of class each day.

3. Assignments: Students are expected to turn in ALL work! No excuse – no missing work!

4. Late Work: Late work will be accepted with 10 points deducted each day until it is turned in.

5. Names: Work submitted without a name or work that is illegible will be treated as late work.

6. Absent from Class: You are responsible for any work missed when absent.

To make up assignments when absent, first check your teacher’s calendar. Assignments may be posted on google classroom or Discovery Ed, or if we use paper handouts, extra copies will be in the hanging files.

7. Homework: Students are expected to review classwork and notes at home daily in preparation for assessments. There will be weekly vocabulary homework, and

8. Assessments: Quizzes and formative assessments will be administered in small sections throughout a unit. Quizzes may be unannounced. There will be a scheduled test at the end of each unit.

9. Scholarly Integrity: When students collaborate, they are expected to discuss ideas and help each other to clarify concepts. However, all written answers should be the original thoughts of the student. Copying someone else’s work is called cheating and is not allowed. Any instances of cheating will result in an immediate grade of zero (0) for that assignment work.

Grading Procedure:

Grades will be weighted according to the following formula: homework/classwork = 20%, participation and notebook = 20%, quizzes = 25%, tests and large projects = 35%.
