The Newtowne Players are currently showing the 3rd show of their 21st season called "Unnecessary Farce", a fast-paced comedic play written by Paul Slade Smith. The story revolves around two police officers who set up a sting operation in a motel room to catch a corrupt mayor. As the plan quickly spirals out of control- mistaken identities, a hitman in a kilt, and a series of hilarious misunderstandings lead to chaos. With classic farce elements like slamming doors, secret lovers, and escalating confusion, the show delivers nonstop laughter and physical comedy sure to bring you good laugh

According to Elisa Mattingly who wrote a review about the show recently:
“The show involves a lot of running and jumping, as doors slam and blouses fly. There is hardly time to appreciate the chemistry between characters or the tensions of a potential murder before something ludicrous causes more guffaws to erupt.”
Not only that but she acknowledges that,
“Delivering zany one-liners while sprinting from room to room and leaping in and out of beds is no easy feat, but the cast pulls it all off with ease.”
