Community and environmental education Partners (CEEP)
Purpose and overview
The San Mateo County Office of Education (SMCOE) serves as a central convener for bringing together a network of Community and Environmental Education Partners (both push-in and field-trip destinations) who offer programs throughout San Mateo County. The purpose of this network is to foster collaboration, build capacity and consistency in programs alignment, and integrate into districts and schools. This network meets every two months at the San Mateo County Office of Education.
If you would like to take part in this opportunity, please contact the Environmental Literacy Coordinator: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Purpose AND OUTCOMES
There are organizations on both the peninsula (MEEA), and across the Bay Area (ChangeScale) that are focused on fostering collaboration between organizations, and offering high quality professional learning experience. However, there is a need for this type of facilitation to be done from an organization like a County Office, who has more of a direct pipeline to districts and schools, and a strong sense of the professional learning that best aligns with the standards and pedagogy training received by teachers and administrators. Intended outcomes for this network include:
- Ongoing professional learning and alignment with the formal education system
- Collective outreach to districts and schools, and opportunities to connect with school leaders directly
- Increased communication and collaboration between partners, with the possible outcome of collective collaboratives for program offerings, seeking funding, evaluation, etc.
- K-12 scope and sequence of standards aligned opportunities that provide experiential environmental learning
The network will also have access to comprehensive professional development on an assortment of topics; for example: standards alignment (i.e. NGSS, HSS Framework, etc.), and pedagogy strategies (i.e. culturally responsive teaching, ELD techniques, etc.). See here for more details about CEEP.
