Artificial Intelligence (AI) is fast becoming ubiquitous. It has a critical but unclear impact on Higher Education (HE) practices, educators and learners across Europe, which urgently needs to be properly understood. Accordingly, we have been working on identifying and analysing AI best practices in HE in three countries with a view to developing a roadmap for future developments and use of AI in HE.

AI-HE 2021 is a conference for educators, researchers, practitioners and other experts with a passion for and interest in AI in Higher Education.

Bart Rienties, UK

Dr. Bart Rienties is Professor of Learning Analytics and programme lead of the learning analytics and learning design research programme at the Institute of Educational Technology at the Open University UK.

Miriam R. Sørensen, DK

Miriam Ruth Sørensen has a Master's degree in Finance and Strategic Management from CBS. She is currently working as an associate professor in economics at Cphusiness.

José Bidarra, PT

José Bidarra PhD in Educational Communications by Universidade Aberta (the Portuguese Open University), where he is currently Professor with Habilitation in the Department of Science and Technology.

Elsa Cardoso, PT

Elsa Cardoso is an Assistant Professor at ISCTE- Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL), in the Information Science and Technologies Department of the School of Technology and Architecture.

Henrik K. Simonsen, DK

Dr. Henrik Køhler Simonsen has a PhD in Corporate Lexicography, an MBA in Business Modelling and Emergent Management and an Army Leadership Diploma from the Danish Army.

Jesper Balslev , DK

Jesper Balslev has a ph.d. on evaluation practices regarding the use of ICT in education, from the department of philosophy and science studies at Roskilde University.

Sofia Balula , PT

Sofia B. Dias works as a Research/ Professor Assistant at Faculdade de Motricidade Humana of the University of Lisbon (Portugal). She holds a PhD in Science Education, specialty of Analysis and Organization of Educational Systems.

Wayne Holmes, UK

Dr. Wayne Holmes is a learning sciences and innovation researcher who received his PhD from the University of Oxford. Currently, he teaches at University College London and is an ‘AI and education’ consultant for UNESCO.

Tue Bjerl Nielsen, DK

Tue Bjerl Nielsen is executive director at SmartLearning, part-time lecturer at Department of Science Education, University of Copenhagen, and member of the advisory board for AI Innovation House Vejle

Covadonga Rodrigo San Juan, ES

Dr. Covadonga Rodrigo works as a Research/Professor Assistant at Dept. of Languages and Information Systems at the UNED (Spain). She is an innovation technologies application to education researcher who received hers PhD from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

Martin Hlosta , UK

Dr. Martin Hlosta is a Research Fellow at Knowledge Media institute at The Open University, UK, and a leader of OUAnalyse a university Predictive Learning Analytics project deployed in all undergraduate courses.

Jesper Thisted Larsen, DK


Jesper Thisted Larsen has a Master's degree in economics from CBS. He is currently working as an associate professor in economics at Cphbusiness.



AI-HE 2021 is an online hop on/hop of conference, which means that you can participate from everywhere and in the sessions in which you are particularly interested.


The conference takes place Tuesday May 18th 2021, at 9.50 am - 2.30 pm CET.
