On August 22, 2024, NTC SmartClass, in collaboration with subject matter experts and homeschoolers, hosted an online celebration of Araw ng Wika to recognize the Filipino language and promote a deeper understanding of Philippine culture. The event featured various engaging games, competitions, and artworks, allowing participants to explore Philippine history and learn more about the Filipino language. Through these activities, attendees not only gained knowledge about the nation's rich heritage but also connected with each other, fostering a sense of unity and pride in their cultural identity.
Some of the games featured in the event were the quiz bee and Filipino tongue twister challenge. According to one homeschooler, these activities were what truly got people engaged with the event. Not only did they make learning enjoyable, but they also helped the attendees improve their skills in articulating the Filipino language. Through the quiz bee, participants had the opportunity to test their knowledge about the country’s culture and history, while the tongue twisters challenged their pronunciation and fluency. These interactive games created an exciting and dynamic atmosphere, encouraging everyone to participate, learn, and appreciate the richness of the Filipino language.

In addition to the engaging games at the event, fun and creative activities like drawing and poster-making were organized to celebrate Philippine culture. As one homeschooler shared, “The most memorable part was the top 3 posters, each showcasing unique styles and distinct ways of conveying the message of Araw ng Wika.” The artwork displayed a variety of styles, featuring elements such as Baybayin script, national heroes like José Rizal, Gabriela Silang, and Lapu-Lapu, traditional Filipino clothing like the 'barong' and 'saya', iconic Filipino dishes like adobo, the Philippine eagle. And, of course, the majestic Philippine flag, which holds great pride for every Filipino. These art pieces beautifully reflected the rich cultural heritage and values that Araw ng Wika aims to honor.
The Araw ng Wika event undoubtedly had a positive impact on attendees in various ways. One homeschooler shared, “I joined the event not only to appreciate and learn more about my country but also to have fun with my friends.” Another participant expressed that the event piqued his interest and that he hoped to make new friends there. Indeed, the Araw ng Wika event served not only to deepen students’ understanding of Philippine culture and language but also to foster new friendships among them. Through interactive games, meaningful discussions, and collaborative activities, attendees were able to connect with one another, strengthening their sense of community and shared cultural pride. The event proved to be a valuable experience for everyone, enriching both their knowledge and their social bonds.
