Our Standard: Affirming vs. Welcoming In this directory, we feature communities where all people are celebrated as they are—regardless of identity or orientation.
Welcoming (The "Bait-and-Switch"): Many faith communities use "Welcoming" as a missionary tool. They welcome you into the building, but they do not affirm your identity. This often leads to a "journey" where the ultimate goal is your "transformation"—pressuring LGBTQIA+ individuals to commit to lifelong celibacy, undergo conversion-style counseling, or eventually leave. In these spaces, your belonging is conditional upon your willingness to change. .
Affirming (True Inclusion): An affirming community celebrates you exactly as you are. There is no hidden agenda to change your orientation or gender identity. You are eligible for full participation, including marriage, leadership, and ordination, without any requirement to "repent" for being your authentic self.
