Hangouts video calls need to use your computer's camera and microphone so you can start your video call.
Allow camera & microphone access
1. Open hangouts.google.com.
2. Click Video call (Image). A message will appear at the top of the video call window.
3. Click Allow. You only need to do this once. You can allow to use:
Recording (Image): The video call is using your camera and microphone.
Video camera (Image): The video call is using your camera and microphone.
Change setting to allow access
If you aren’t asked to allow access or if you blocked access before, you can change your settings.
1. Open hangouts.google.com.
2. Click Video call (Image).
3. In the top right, click Camera error (Image).
4. Click Always allow https://hangouts.google.com to access your camera and microphone.
5. Click Done. The video call will automatically connect. If you don't see the call refresh, exit and re-enter the call.
1. Open hangouts.google.com or on the sidebar in Gmail.
2. Select a person from the Hangouts list or search for their name or email address. When you find the person you want, click their name. You can also check multiple people to start a group video call.
3. Click Video call (Image).
4. When you're done, click End call (Image).
1. Open the Hangouts app (Image) .
2. At the bottom, tap Contacts (Image) .
3. Type a person's name, and select them from the search results.
4. Tap Video call.
5. Optional: On your iPad, you can start a video call by opening a Hangouts conversation and swiping from right to left.
6. When you're done, tap End call (Image).
