Building Relationships through Flipped Instruction (3 session series)

Teaching to the whole class in a distance setting helps you cover content, but may prevent you from building the type of relationships that can deepen the teaching and learning for your class. In the first session, we will examine the basics of flipped instruction and how it can be used to balance asynchronous and synchronous small group time with students. In the second and third sessions, we will both debrief the strategies we tried and deepen our understandings about building relationships that drive teaching and learning.
Assessing Student Understanding in Distance Learning 6th-12th (2 session series)

How are teachers assessing student understanding when it is so easy to look up answers while it is harder to see their work progress or have casual check ins? In the first session we will share and discuss promising strategies. Then in the second session participants will have a chance to share what they tried since we last met, learn from each other and discuss possible solutions for challenges that may have occurred.
Assessment and Feedback in Distance Learning TK-5 (2 session series)

What are effective ways to check for understanding and provide feedback in distance learning? We’ll look at strategies and platforms for gauging student understanding and discuss the unique considerations of summative assessments in our virtual environment. In the second session, we’ll debrief strategies you’ve tried and collaboratively problem solve for challenges you’ve encountered.
Integrated ELD 6th-12th (2 session series)

How are your Multilingual English Learners doing so far? Are you wanting to support them better but running out of steam after planning all new lessons each day? This session is intended to give you the space with colleagues to practice putting ELD strategies into practice and provide follow up peer support until those practices become automatic. These sessions will follow up on the ideas shared during the August PD, so if you already do every single one on a regular basis, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to set up an individual or small group discussion of next steps for Academic English Language Development.

In these two sessions we’ll dig into planning for designated ELD and specific strategies for incorporating vocabulary development and oral language strategies. We’ll also look at and share resources that supplement the Wonders ELD curriculum.

Are you a new teacher? Would you like to join other new teachers for collaborative support around teaching and learning in this virtual environment? Join us for a six session Community of Practice series (two in the Fall, four in the Spring) just for new teachers, where coaches will facilitate conversations focused on assessment, lesson design, routines for visible thinking and language development, synchronous small group time, and relationship building through examination of the issues you bring to the group. This community of practice provides you with an opportunity to improve your craft collaboratively, gain strategies you can try and have a supportive group in which to grow.
Developing a Trauma-Informed Practice Through SEL and Equity (4 session series)

This series focuses on the intersectionality of integrating equity, SEL, and trauma-responsive approaches to help transform our practices and therefore, our schools. Tovi inspires us to create systems and norms in our classrooms and schools that foster resilience in ourselves and those we serve and create sustainable systems that, hopefully, we don’t need to continue to heal from. Plenty of skills and tools will be taught and provided to increase staff’s ability to be a trauma-informed school and deliver restorative practices during the school day so we can create a safe, caring, and positive school culture.
Imagine Learning Language & Literacy 101

Join Imagine Learning’s Jenny Meeske and Robert Reimer in an overview and introduction to Imagine Language and Literacy. Together we will explore the program’s pedagogy and framework for instruction, as well as the student and teacher experiences and dashboards. Our professional learning sessions will also center around how Imagine Language and Literacy can support your instruction during synchronous and asynchronous learning time. We will follow-up with deeper dive sessions separately for elementary (11/18) and secondary (12/2) teachers. We look forward to seeing you all and learning alongside you!
