1. PRE-ORIENTATION REQUIREMENTS (asynchronous) must be completed by the following dates depending on consultant classification:

Returning Consultants ---------------------------------- Friday, August 19th

As promised last year, the workload has been divided between more experienced writing consultants and new hires. You have fewer pre-orientation requirements (literally only 2 activities, 1 of which is a confidentiality form) because of your previous experience working at SLU's writing center. It should take approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete.

New Consultants ---------------------------------- Saturday, August 20th or Monday, January 9th

Compared to last year, the pre-orientation requirements have been reduced. There will only be 4 activities (1 of which is a confidentiality form). It should take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to complete.

2. ORIENTATION (in-person) will take place on Monday, August 22nd from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm in the Busch Student Center 352/353 or at a mutually agreed upon day and time during the week of January 8th in the Busch Student Center 331 Conference Room.

3. POST-ORIENTATION INDEPENDENT STUDY (asynchronous) must be completed within the first month of the semester during regularly scheduled shifts, especially when there are open hours and student cancellations.

• Professional staff and undergraduate consultants will be paid for the Pre-Orientation Requirements and for attending Orientation (both of which take place outside regularly scheduled shifts). Remember to add the appropriate number of hours to your first biweekly timesheet for the Fall semester.
• As for graduate students (both from the Department of English and Academic Support), the Pre-Orientation Requirements and Orientation is part of your assistantship requirements. You will automatically be paid for the time spent conducting the a/synchronous training because it is already included in your monthly stipend. Unfortunately, you do not get to bank any extra hours for orientation.
