Ignite Seminar/ Course Design Materials / Personal Approach to Inquiry
Faculty will receive Ignite Seminar Ignatian Pedagogy Training, hosted in conjunction with the Reinert Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning. These workshops will orient faculty members to the history and philosophy of Ignatian pedagogy, and will guide them in considering how to design the course to ensure that it makes this educational paradigm visible and accessible to students.
A curated set of resources designed to assist you in developing your Ignite Seminar can be found here. The Reinert Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning and several other Jesuit universities have Ignatian pedagogy resources to assist you in the development of your Ignite Seminar.
The Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm is a personal approach to inquiry that involves a five-step cycle shown below and described briefly here.
Known as “Ignatian” because they are rooted in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), these five elements together comprised (and continue to comprise) the essential components of Jesuits’ meditative practices and became integrated with the Jesuits’ approach to education in the schools they established around the world.
We also have assembled resources, including short videos and documents, from a range of AJCU colleges and universities on the Ignatian pedagogical paradigm which can be found here.
