SLAM Art Project

This project was designed to encourage “outside of the box” thinking and creativity. Culture is an essential part of cuisine and vice versa. Art is many things, but almost always it is a vehicle for getting people to see something in a different or new way. The goal of this project was to tell a story with food through the inspiration of art and provide an opportunity to create a dish from start to finish, genesis to the plate. The artwork was chosen from the pieces on display at the Saint Louis Art Museum (SLAM). Anna experienced, researched, and designed a dish utilizing the knowledge and her own feelings about the chosen art piece. The dish contains multiple components that work together to tell a story and represent her inspiration. The presentation of the final result was expected to be artful and communicative of her ideas to an audience in a meaningful way.

Anna Cui

Anna Cui (she/her) is from St. Louis, Missouri. She will be graduating this May with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics on the culinary track. After graduation, she plans to complete a dietetic internship and continue with graduate school. In her free time, she likes to draw, read, and explore new restaurants/cafes.

Anna would like to thank Dan Brewer for his guidance and support during this project. By providing his insight and experience, she learned much more about herself and what it takes to be involved with food and creativity.
