Ms. Meyer and Ms. Martin
The Sentence
by Louise Erdrich
Ms. Meyer says that this book is brilliant and so unique. The main character Tookie is funny and heartfelt. The premise of Tookie getting arrested for moving a dead body, then later working at Birchbark Books in Minneapolis during the Covid pandemic and the murder of George Floyd, as well as getting haunted by a ghost seems unbelievable on paper, but reads with so much impact. I loved this book!
Ms. Martin says that I love that the story takes place in Minneapolis. The author, Louis Erdrich, actually owns a small Native American bookstore in Minneapolis, where this book takes place. It covers Native American literature and stories, topics such as isolation, covid, culture, George Floyd & aftermath. I highly recommend!
