Today you will be taking the NWEA test for (insert one: Math or Reading). All 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students are taking this test. It is very important that you do your best work during this test.
This test is one way for me to see what you know and are able to do. This will help me plan what and how I teach you. It will show me what you know well and where you need to improve. I will receive a copy of your score.
Read this paragraph for MATH ONLY: You have a pencil and paper next to your computer to use during this part of the test. On some questions you will see a calculator appear on the screen, you may use it if you think it will help you solve the problem. You can also raise your hand if you have a problem reading a word and I’ll pronounce it for you, but I cannot tell you what the word means.
Please raise your hand if you have questions during the test. When you are finished, and the screen no longer shows you a question, raise your hand to let me know. Then you will read quietly (without talking) respecting the silence of others still taking the test until everyone finishes.
Take your time, read carefully, think, and do your best!
Please be sure to continually walk around the room and monitor students, as well as use the new MAP proctor software to identify the pace of students.
The district has requested us to not talk tell a specific student to slow down or make sure to read the question. However, you can plan to pause ALL STUDENTS and repeat your instructions to the whole class about doing their best work, taking time to read each question and answer choices.

A student is probably disengaged when he or she answers three successive questions with rapid guesses, and so an alert appears for the Proctor to intervene:
Encourage the student to re-engage. Be as positive as you can.
Avoid singling out a student publicly.
Emphasize it’s important to answer each question to their best ability.
Determine if the student is capable of re-engaging. If not capable (such as illness), consider pausing or suspending the test, and resume later.
Avoid helping the student to answer test questions. Encouragement is okay; helping to take the test is not.
After intervening, you can dismiss alerts individually or all at once:
Note: Although you are not required to dismiss the notifications, it will help you keep track of who needs intervention and whether a student has become disengaged again.
In each testing session, it is normal for several students to be kicked out, or not see their names in the drop-down menu.
Select the check box next to the student’s name
Click on “Select Action.” Do one of two things:
If it says “Testing” next to the student’s name, select “Suspend.”
If it says “Confirmed” next to the student’s name, select “Do Not Confirm.” (Do NOT Terminate a test – ever!!)
Select the check box next to the student’s name (again)
Click on “Select Action” and select “Test Again”
Turn the Chromebook off and then on again. The button is located in the upper right corner of the keyboard.
Student logs in as usual with session name and code
