Dr. Ashwani Kumar Aggarwal is a tenured (Full-time) Professor in the Department of Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering at Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, India. His expertise lies in Computer Vision, Deep Learning, and Artificial Intelligence. Dr. Aggarwal earned his Ph.D. (Full-time) in Computer Vision from The University of Tokyo, Japan, during the period 2009 to 2014. Prior to his Ph.D., he completed his Master of Technology (Full-time) in Instrument Technology from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, in the years 2000 to 2002. Dr. Aggarwal completed Bachelor of Engineering (Full-time) in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from College of Engineering and Technology Bathinda, India, during 1992 to 1996. He is a member of several professional organizations, including ACM and IEEE. Dr. Aggarwal has been actively engaged in teaching at Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology since 1996. Over the years, he has taught various courses, including Random Signals & Stochastic Processes, Nonlinear and Discrete Control, and Research Methodology. Additionally, he has taken on administrative roles as the Branch Counselor of the IEEE Student Branch and the Training and Placement Officer at the institute. With a strong research focus in Computer Vision, Dr. Aggarwal has been involved in numerous sponsored research and development projects. Some of his notable projects include collaborations with Asia-Pacific Network (Japan), Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (India), and Hokkaido University (Japan). Dr. Aggarwal has supervised four Ph.D. students in diverse research areas, including automated apple grading systems, disease diagnostics using thermal images, deep learning-based prediction in genomic data, and evolutionary algorithms. He has been the recipient of SLIET Quality Publication Award and the SLIET Research Project Award. Additionally, he has received scholarships, including the GCOE Scholarship (Japan) and the MEXT Scholarship from the Japanese Government. Dr. Aggarwal has actively contributed to the academic and research community by serving as a reviewer for numerous journals in the fields of computer vision, artificial intelligence, and related domains. He has also provided editorial services to publications such as PLOS ONE and Medical Imaging Process & Technology. Dr. Aggarwal possesses a wide range of technical skills, including programming languages like C++, Java, Python, and MATLAB. He is proficient in using libraries such as OpenCV, Point Cloud Library, and HDF Library. Additionally, he has expertise in using Google Earth Engine and reference management software like EndNote, RefWorks, Zotero, and Mendeley.
