Math

Number Corner components explained:

Calendar Grid- patterns that reinforce number and geometry skills

Calendar Collector- collecting that promotes understanding of estimating and counting, value, measurement, and data

Computational Fluency-activities, games, and practice designed to maintain fluency

Problem Strings- a series of related problems designed to bring out certain strategies through discussion and modeling

Solving Problems- estimating, reasoning, writing equations, and solving problems

What are we learning?

April- Students will revisit multiplication and division strategies in unit 6. I know parents are wondering where the algorithm is for multiplication. Bridges curriculum focuses on the understanding of numbers and place value over the memorization of the algorithm concept. We have introduced the algorithm to many students in class and recognize it as a strategy for solving problems. It will be introduced to all students in unit 7.

Bridges

We are continuing our work in unit 5- Geometry. Students are taking notes in their journals, recording terms, drawings, and definitions. They are also using protractors to measure angles. Please ask your child to show you the geometry terms with their arms or hands. Multiple reinforcement opportunities help them retain information.
