Week 3

WEEK 3

Talking about Books.pdf

Use simple stories to facilitate speech and language development.

  • Asks questions- yes/no, who, what, & where

  • Talk about how the characters feel in the story. Ask how your child might feel if ____.

  • Recall relevant experiences your child may be able to relate back to the story - "Remember when ___?"

  • Understanding and using pronouns: she/her, he/his, they/we, me/you, etc.

  • Story Sequencing: First (picture card 1), next (picture card 2), then (picture card 3), last (picture card 4)

  • Story retell using the visuals- Have your child retell the story if possible using the pictures/video provided. Even if your child is only using one word, use that word to expand (e.g., Child points to the big fish and says "Big!" Parent can respond by saying "Yes, you see the big fish! I see the big fish! Matt caught the big fish.").

  • Act out the story with your child. If the child is able, let them act it out and tell the story as they go. If the child is not yet able to narrate, parent may narrate as the child acts out the story.

  • Use simple language to expand your child's words/phrases/sentences

    • I see (a/the) ____

    • Molly feels ____

    • She/he/they has/have (a/the) ____

    • Etc.

  • Go fishing, pretend to go fishing, play a fishing game, watch a video about fishing all while using key vocabulary from the Matt & Molly story.

  • Repeat, repeat, repeat.

  • Have fun!
