Are you an S6 getting ready for prom? Find all the information you need to be prepared for the event within this article.
Duncanrig said goodbye to the S6 class of 2025 leavers just before the Easter holidays, but the sixth years will have the chance to give one last farewell to the school during their Prom. The much anticipated event has been the centre of conversation for many months, with discussions of outfits, hair and makeup filling the S6 social area with excitement.
The Prom evening will take place on Tuesday 22nd April in the heart of Glasgow’s City Centre at the Grand Central Hotel. Pupils are to arrive at 6:45PM with the event finishing at 11:00PM. The Prom Committee, overseen by Miss Naseer and the School Captains, have been planning the event for the past few months, which has included tasks such as booking the hotel, organising the vote for the menu, and other details and surprises for the year group to enjoy. We are very lucky to have our balloon display created by the wonderful music teacher, Mrs. Orr, who has kindly dedicated her time and effort into this task. A large portion of the evening will be taken up by the Prom Awards, which celebrates the diverse personalities of the year group, with award categories such as ‘Biggest Life of the Party’, ‘Class Clown’, ‘Biggest Drama Queen’, and of course, ‘Prom King and Queen’.
The year group was provided a list of food options from the hotel which was narrowed down by the School Captains and put to a vote to decide the items of the three course meal. The winners of the vote are:
Starter - Cream of Leek & Potato Soup, Chive Oil
Main Course - Pot-Roast Chicken Breast, Dauphinoise Potato, Smoked Bacon & Savoy Cabbage, Glazed Carrot, Peppercorn Sauce
Dessert - Sticky Toffee Pudding, Vanilla Ice Cream & Butterscotch Sauce
The hotel has been notified of any dietary requirements and will cater towards these.
As the hotel is within Glasgow Central Station, many pupils were planning on taking the train from East Kilbride/Hairmyres into town, however disruptions to the train lines means there are Scotrail replacement buses in place for the trains until May. The last two buses leave from Central at 11:05PM and 11:17PM. Tickets can be purchased through the Scotrail app, website or from Glasgow Central Station.
Although the main event of Prom is taking place in the evening, the sixth years have been invited to a Prom breakfast taking place at 9:15AM to 10:45AM in the S6 Social Area. School uniform is not required but feel free to wear your leavers’ hoodies. This will be a good chance to say goodbye to pupils and teachers that are not attending Prom, and is also an opportunity to collect any more signatures for your yearbook.
We hope this celebration will create lasting memories for our S6 cohort and will be enjoyed by everyone.
