Are you worried or nervous about exams and studying? Then let Emily Wilson teach you ways to deal with exam stress and how to make the most of your study leave.
Exams can be one of the most stressful times of the school year, but with the right approach, you can stay calm, focused, and prepared. Whether you’re cramming for your Highers and National 5’s or just trying to stay on top of your workload, here are some practical tips to manage stress and maximize your study efforts.
One of the biggest sources of stress is procrastination. Instead of waiting until the last minute, create a study schedule well in advance. Break down subjects into manageable chunks and set daily goals to stay on track. Taking breaks is also very important - studying for long hours without rest can lead to burnout, so try the Pomodoro Technique, where you study for 25-50 minutes and then take a short 5-10 minute break. Managing stress through relaxation techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or even listening to calming music can help you stay focused.
Within the school, teachers are always available to help you as well. Although at times it can seem daunting to seek advice or help on topics you struggle with, teachers are there to aid you during crucial exam times. And finally, maintaining a positive mindset whilst studying can make all the difference - believe in yourself, remind yourself that you are capable, and take things one step at a time.
As a student studying for my own Highers, I like to take the time to remember that exams are a challenge and I shouldn’t let myself get overwhelmed by the storm cloud that exam studying sometimes can be.
