Our Duncanrig school captains inform us about their missions and plans they have for our school and the future.
As School Captains this year, we have so many ideas for the school and look forward to working with the leadership team to make these ideas happen. We want everyone to feel like they can come and speak to us, should they have any issues or ideas. We can usually be found in the S6 social area at break and lunch, and have set up multiple social media platforms as captains, such as Instagram, X, an email address and YouTube, which can be found at the bottom of this article. If you would like to speak to us, please don't hesitate to find us at break and lunch, or get in touch with an email.
This year, we would like to continue with all the excellent work done by last year's captains. We hope to make Duncanrig a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Our role as school captains is to promote friendliness and a sense of community throughout the school, for both students and teachers. We want everyone to feel included as part of the Duncanrig community.
We wanted to take the opportunity to update you on the work that the captains have been doing around the school. So far, we have helped set up new whole school initiatives, including the Duncanrig newspaper and podcast. These are both off to a great start but we would love to see people from younger year groups getting involved. If you would like to be involved, you can find one of the captains in the social area, or email us. We would love to hear your ideas, whether this is for writing, presenting or graphic design.
The captains have also set up another new initiative: Study Skills Workshops. Each week, we focus on a different study technique, demonstrate and share our personal studying and exam experience. The library is also open for studying after school Monday to Thursday. If you are unsure how to study, need extra support with studying, or just a quiet place to get some work done, this is the perfect opportunity for you. If you would like to sign up, a QR code can be found on posters around the school. We hope to see you there!
The captains, as well as the teachers, are keen to get more juniors involved in having a say in what happens around the school. We hope to boost leadership opportunities for juniors by introducing leadership academy ambassadors. If you were to be a leadership academy ambassador, this would involve sharing your ideas with S6 leadership academy captains in the area that you would be interested in. The areas covered are: events, charities, mental health, equalities, rights respecting, transition, reading champions and STEM. If you would like to sign up for any of these roles, google classroom codes will be shared on your year group google classroom for you to join, and more information will be shared from there.Â
This year, as captains, we are taking charge of a number of S6 traditions. This includes yearbook, prom and leavers hoodies. We would love to see more S6 pupils become involved in the yearbook and prom committee. If this sounds like something that you would be interested in, then please come and speak to one of us and we will be more than happy to let you know more about how to get involved!
So far, the first two terms have been very productive for us, and we hope to continue in this way for the rest of the year.
