This course develops pupil’s knowledge and understanding of the use of graphic techniques for communication in the world around us and in the world of work. The course focuses on the international use of computer graphics which are used to communicate in the disciplines of Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Manufacturing, Product Design, Interior Design, Fashion and Graphic Design.
The Course provides opportunity for learners to gain skills in reading, interpreting, and creating graphic communications. Learners will initiate, develop and communicate ideas graphically. They will develop spatial awareness and visual literacy through graphic experiences.
The Course is practical, exploratory and experiential in nature. It combines elements of recognised professional standards for graphic communication partnered with graphic design creativity and visual impact.
The Course allows learners to engage with technologies. It allows learners to consider the impact that graphic communication technologies have on our environment and society.
develop skills in graphic communication techniques, including the use of equipment, graphics materials and software
extend and apply knowledge and understanding of graphic communication standards, protocols, and conventions where these apply
develop an understanding of the impact of graphic communication technologies on our environment and society
In Higher Graphic Communication we cover the following topics:
3D CAD Modelling, drawing and illustration
Building & construction drawings, protocols and standards
Graphic design through through the use of desktop publishing software
Manual sketching techniques
Using 3D CAD modelling software (Autodesk Inventor) pupils create a range of 3D models of everyday products. Pupils are also required to produce detailed technical drawings within this software and highly realistic illustrated images to showcase the product.
Pupils learn about the role of software in the development of building and construction drawings. They are given the opportunity to learn about the different types of construction drawing required in industry in order to successfully complete our built environment.
Pupils learn about graphic design within the context of desktop publishing. This involves both the planning and production stages of producing graphic designed layouts. Pupils will be learn using a range of photo editing and graphic design software packages.
Pupils will develop a range of 2D and 3D sketching skills as part of this course. Sketches may display every day products, environments, colour/materials and technical details.
