We are currently working towards achieving our Rights Respecting Schools Gold Award, having achieved our Bronze award in 2024 and our Silver in 2024. The UK Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK) works with schools in the UK to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. The Rights Respecting Schools Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to exercise these rights and be responsible, active citizens.
At Holy Cross High School there is a pupil voice RRSA group and a staff working group to help drive the importance of the rights of a child in our school. Have a look at our display outside the English corridor in the street at some of the work we have carried out, and the importance our school places on children's rights.
We are thrilled to share our progress as a UNICEF Rights Respecting School!
After achieving our Bronze: Rights Committed Award in 2023 and earning our Silver: Rights Aware status in 2024, our whole school community is officially aiming for Gold: Rights Respecting.
We are actively collaborating with pupils, staff, parents, and local partners to ensure children’s rights are embedded at the heart of our school ethos, culture, and daily life.
Thank you to everyone supporting our journey to Gold!
Our school has been awarded the Bronze Rights Committed status by UNICEF for our present work done in the school to learn about the rights of a child.
Congratulations to everyone who participated with the UNICEF Rights of a Child PSE lessons and completed the questionnaires.
Our next goal is to achieve the UNICEF silver award. We will be working with the pupil voice committee to gather some ideas and organise some events and lessons which will help us to learn, teach and celebrate the rights of a child.
Holy Cross High School was awarded our silver award in 2024. We received excellent feedback from our examiner, who highlighted the school's inclusivity and nurturous approach to Health and Wellbeing. We were advised we were on track to start our work towards our gold award - by ensuring the Rights of a child are embedded in the school ethos.
Below is evidence that we submitted for our Silver Award.
