ST KEVIN'S SCHOOL RULES Be Safe Be Responsible Be Respectful

Principal's Message

Dear Parents & Friends,

I would like to thank all of you for the many kind words, prayers and thoughts during the past week after the loss of my mother in-law. It is never easy when someone so important in our lives passes away and many of you have shared stories of your own losses. It is comforting to know that as a part of a community we will always have the strength and support of those around us.

Late Arrivals

Dear Parents, could we please ensure that all children are arriving at school before the bell in the morning. We have been having a number of late arrivals which can mean children are missing that initial organisation each morning and having to join the class during prayer and class roll.

ECSI SURVEY - Enhancing Catholic School Identity

"The ECSI Project provides ongoing international research that gives staff, students and school communities a theological framework to better understand and clarify their Catholic identity and beliefs.

The project provides empirical and practical-theological instruments to measure a school's Catholicity, and in turn, confirm its future direction and practices."

St Kevin's Primary School Community of Parents Students and Teachers are asked to complete the Enhancing Catholic School Identity Survey. I understand that sometimes surveys can be quite tedious and this one does take approximately 55 minutes. It is possible to complete the survey in more than one session and the data collected forms an important part of enabling Catholic Schools to identify areas of strength and improvement. All teachers and children in Years 5&6 will also be asked to complete a survey relevant to them. Today your child will have brought home a letter explaining the process and some information regarding the survey. All information gathered is completely anonymous.

To access the survey now please follow the link HERE http://www.schoolidentity.net/ use the password: Ghj654 click - To The Surveys then New User and use the Group Entry code: vqn12v or select St Kevin's Ormond from the drop down list.

Harmony Day

"Harmony Day is an Australian Government program that centers on the message that “Everyone belongs”, reinforcing the importance of inclusiveness to all Australians. Since 1999, thousands of Harmony Day events have been staged in childcare centers, schools, community groups, churches, businesses and federal, state and local government agencies across Australia."

Yesterday at St Kevin's our children were involved in activities to promote the importance of acceptance and understanding. As we know Australia is a country made up of people from many different backgrounds and it is this which gives us a rich and interesting story. Understanding our diversity and building understanding is an important part of what we must teach our children in the ever changing world in which they are growing up.

Kind Regards

Tie Dyeing

Last week you would have noticed that your child brought home a beautifully created Tie Dyed bag. Many thanks to Sue Halls, our Learning Support Officer, who made this valuable learning experience possible. Sue single highhandedly worked with each child individually to create their masterpiece. As we know these sorts of activities take great planning and preparation (not to mention an amazing amount of cleaning up afterwards) and we greatly appreciate her enthusiasm and willingness to enable this for our children.

Student Wellbeing

Understanding Mental Health in Learning Communities - Be You

What is Be You?

"Be You aims to transform Australia’s approach to supporting children’s and young people’s mental health in early learning services and schools with a vision that every learning community is positive, inclusive and resilient – a place where every child, young person, educator and family can achieve their best possible mental health.

"Children develop rapidly from birth to young adulthood. Everyone working in early learning services and schools needs to be mindful of the evolving nature of children’s cognitive, emotional, social and physical skills and abilities, and adapt their approach according to a child’s age and developmental stage.

It’s also important to recognise how your own mental health and wellbeing can impact on children and young people’s development and learning, and how everyone can benefit by learning more about mental health and wellbeing."

Watch the video and think about your own perspective on mental health and wellbeing.

Library News

Dear Parents,

Mr. Daniel Andrews and past premiers proudly support the Premiers Reading Challenge as an important literacy initiative and declare the fifteenth year of this Challenge open. We encourage students and their siblings to listen to, read to or read to self as a way of meeting the challenge. We are hoping that all the students will have their username and password by the holidays. We encourage all parents to borrow from the library and this will help your children, especially over the Premiers' Reading Challenge. Parents can borrow up to eight books per week and the students can also borrow eight books.

Also, please could I have all consent forms back before next Wednesday 27th March. Parents and students can borrow over the holidays so please come and see me on Wednesday in the last week to enrol in our system.

Happy Reading!

Julie Gonzales
