Course Selections/Edits/Approvals. In the weeks listed above, English teachers will bring their classes to the library to meet with counselors. Counselors will help students complete their four year plans and select courses for the next school year. Students will be able to enter their own electives and alternate choices. Core classes have been recommended by staff, counselors and administrators based on student performance, grades, attendance and scores. However, students may request a change to core classes. Course Selection Approval/Edit forms will be sent home on the Friday following student-counselor meetings for parents.

Starting this year, seniors will be tested in biology, chemistry and physics. It is anticipated that scores from the CAST (California Science Test) will be utilized the same way as the SBAC English test, to determine whether students are ready for entry-level, credit-bearing university courses, and whether students would be exempted from remedial classes in college. To ensure our students are deemed proficient and ready for university level science courses, we do recommend students complete biology, chemistry and physics prior to taking the CAST in senior year. This is why you may see a recommendation for a science course on the "Course Selection Approval or Request for Changes" form.

Due to constraints such as staffing, number of sections, or limited seats available, not all course selections can be accommodated, but we will do our best to give students their first or second choices. Requests for particular periods or teachers, however, cannot be filled. The deadline to submit the Course Selection Approval/Edit form will be posted at the top of the form. AP contracts and/or less-than-six forms, if applicable, are also due on that date.

$100 Reward! Do you want to earn $100? How about $100 for every AP test you pass in the 2018-2019 school year? Pass four AP tests in 2019 and earn $400. This is due to our partnership with NMSI and is limited to AP courses in the sciences, mathematics, English, and Computer Science. Support and study sessions will be provided throughout the year. The following are included in the reward program:

  • AP Biology
  • AP Chemistry
