Scheduling for the 2017-2018 School Year

New Freshmen Scheduling! Welcome, our newest class. Ms. Hayden and the counseling team will be visiting your middle school in the week of March 27-31 to help you schedule your first year of high school. By now, you should have your Student Course Request form. If you do not, please feel free to print a blank form and select the courses you would like. You'll be able to enter your elective choices in your Student Portal, but core courses must be entered by Ms. Hayden or a counselor. Please submit your Student Course Request form to Ms. Hayden (nHayden@SJUSD.org) on your scheduling day.

Did you miss your meeting or regret a course request? Don't worry. You'll have another chance to change your courses for '17-'18. On May 16, your draft schedules will be delivered to your middle school. If you'd like to request any changes, you may do so between May 16 and May 26. Schedules will be finalized on May 26 and delivered on June 1 to your middle school. (If there are any staffing changes during summer, some schedule changes may result.)

$100 Reward! Do you want to earn $100? How about $100 for every AP test you pass in the 2017-2018 school year? Pass four AP tests in 2018 and earn $400. This is due to our partnership with NMSI and is limited to AP courses in the sciences, mathematics, English, and Computer Science. Support and study sessions will be provided throughout the year. The following are included in the reward program:

10th -12th Grade: Changing Course Requests. Course requests are locked and cannot be changed, except for incoming Freshmen. However, future sophomores through seniors will have a chance to make changes to your '17-'18 schedule between May 15 and May 26. Draft schedules will be delivered to your 7th period GLC on May 15. Schedules will be finalized on May 26 and delivered on June 1 to your 7th period GLC class.

AP Decision Deadline. AP contracts must be submitted before March 30th in order to be scheduled for AP courses. After June 9th, 2017, AP courses cannot be dropped.

Less than 8 Option. To be scheduled for less than 8 courses, Juniors and Seniors must submit a "Less than 6" permission form, signed by their guardian by March 15th. If this form is not submitted, a full schedule of 8 periods must be scheduled for '17-'18. (Freshmen and sophomores cannot be scheduled for less than 8.)

TA. Only Juniors and Seniors can TA for a teacher, counselor or administrator. A TA permission form must be signed by the student, the parent, and the credentialed staff member and submitted to Ms. Hayden. A student cannot have more than one TA position.

GLC's. Grizzly Learning Centers are required for all students during brown period 7 in 2017-2018. Gold Day GLC's are also required of sophomores. For all other grade levels, gold day GLC's are optional. Freshmen can chooose which gold day study hall they'd like - College Prep, Gold Day GLC, or Guided Studies.

Schedules. Draft schedules will be delivered to students on May 15th. Students have until May 26th to request changes to their schedules. All schedule change requests will be submitted online. A link to this form will be available when the scheduling window opens. Final schedules for the 2017-2018 school year will be delivered to 7th period GLC's on June 1st. Schedules will not be changed after this date unless due to a change in staffing.

Summer School Policies and procedures

Dates: June 12 - June 29

Days: Mondays through Thursdays

Time: 8:00am - 1:30pm

Brunch: 10:00am - 10:25am

(free meal provided by the cafeteria)

Summer Course Offerings (subject to change due to staffing and need) Either semester of the following courses can be taken. There's time to cover only 1 semester, not both.

Application Process

  1. Register online.
  2. Submit Summer School Permission slip to Ms. Hayden or Ms. Dyal.

Scheduling Priority

  • First priority is given to students needing credit recovery to graduate. Within this group, current juniors are given priority. Within this grouping, the earliest online registration timestamps are given priority.
  • Second priority is given to students wishing to improve their grade in a course (A-G requirements). Within this grouping, current Juniors are given priority. Within this grouping, the earliest online registration timestamps are given priority.

Admission. Students and their families will be informed of summer school enrollment status by May 30th.

Attendance. Student can miss no more than 1 day of summer school. After a second absence, a student will be dropped.

Behavior. Upon a third referral regarding a minor infraction, a student will be dropped. A major infraction will result in immediate dismissal from summer school.
