("Botworld Adventure," n.d.)
(Featherweight Games, 2021)
Teaser:
Botmaster's family business needs an adventurer. In a world full of bandits and battle bots, our hero embarks into the unknown to fight. Accompanied by a group of bots, the botmaster will confront wild robots and challengers for supplies.
Game Summary:
"The Botmaster" is your avatar for the duration of this game. He/she/they come from a family of robot builders that you help by hunting for boat and bot supplies. In the beginning of the game, you are gifted your first bot to use in battling wild bots, bandits, and other characters. Slowly you find enough supplies to build a team of bots and you continue battling, questing, and hunting for supplies in the wilderness. As you grow more skilled, your bots will evolve alongside you. Botworld is an expanding landscape of adventures to uncover.
Critical Evaluation:
The animation was clear and engaging, and maps made it easy to decipher quests. In battles I appreciated the auto-battle feature. As you walk through a forest where bandits stop you every few seconds, it is nice to have the battles play out automatically. Since you are not picking the attacks your bots use, I thought the player had nothing to do with winning the battles at first. After playing for a little longer, I picked up strategies for giving your bot team a better chance. The free features of this game make it possible to play without paying for extras. Overall I would recommend this game to a large range of ages from tweens to adults.

Creative Use for a Library Program
Robotics Club: The world of Botworld Adventure depends on robots fighting each other for supplies. Support the real life version of bot battles with a robotics club. If the library has a maker space, they could start a library team or support an existing high school team as a sponsor.
Potential Challenge Issues and Defense Preparation:
Botworld Adventure does not have a history of being challenged. As a free, mobile game it would not be a library material, more of a reader's advisory item. It is rated for audiences nine and older for fantasy violence.
Reason for Inclusion:
To sample a variety of games, I wanted to try an adventure role-playing game. I have not played battle games in 25 years and a lot has changed since Pokemon Blue. It is enjoyable in ways similar to old school Pokemon: your bots evolve and gain experience from battles, the player picks up supplies, and quests unfold. This game could have crossover appeal between teens and their parents.
