This is an adult book with a lot of adult themes, and yet appeals to a younger audience. One reason that teens enjoyed it is because of the fairy tale incorporation. It also appeals to the teens who identify themselves within the LGBTQ+ community, and representation within books is important. I would personally have a difficult time recommending this book to teens but those that have read it have enjoyed it. The author is a great storyteller. I would have to agree with other reviewers that this book was difficult to put down once started.
Based on Malice by Heather Walters, teen could be given a writing prompt to create their own twisted fairytale. They could use any well known story and give it a new twist. Teens should be encouraged to share their stories, but no required.

If Alice in Wonderland and Sleeping Beauty were adults in a strange and unusual kingdom, that would be where Malice by Heather Walters takes place. Fairy tales are popular for children, but this book is definitely for young adults/adults.
Potential Challenge Issues and Defense Preparation
This title is an adult cross-over. It has a lot of adult themes and words that may not be suitable for young audiences. I would not recommend this book to teenagers younger than 17/18 years old, but that is a personal opinion.
This book is popular amongst adults and teenagers. I have been asked by teenagers if they should give it a try and I hadn't read it. So not that I have, I would be wary to say yes. The book is well written but does contain many adult themes.
