Welcome to my e-Portfolio. This is a culmination of the work I accomplished to earn my Masters in Library and Information Science from San Jose State University (SJSU). I enrolled in the program in the Fall of 2019 and I am finishing in the Fall of 2021. It has taken me eleven years to get to this point, because I went to school and worked at the same time. When I first started going to college, I wanted to be a psychologist. After a year, I changed my major to teaching but quickly discovered that that path was not the one for me either. One of my college professors asked if I would be interested in librarianship instead. It was at that point that I had my "Aha!" moment. I had never considered working in a library before, even though I spent most of my free time hanging out in libraries. For the next three years, I worked on getting an Associate in Science for Library Information Technology from City College of San Francisco. Once I started interning at the College’s Rosenberg Library, I realized just how much I loved the profession. It solidified my decision to go to graduate school for librarianship. I transferred to San Francisco State University for my four-year degree. There I earned a Bachelor of Arts in History in the Fall of 2018. Around this time, I also started working at the Daly City Public Library. I felt that I had found my life’s calling. Now, that dream is about to come true.
e-Portfolio Organization
This e-Portfolio is divided into three main sections: Introduction, Competencies A through H and J through O (I was merged with J), and Conclusion & Affirmation. I used Google Sites to host it. Each of competency has:
Statement of Competency
Introduction
Exploration of the key concepts, theories, or principles
Evidence (to prove my competency)
Conclusion
References
Process
When I began the program, I started saving all of my assignments in folders that corresponded to their respective courses in Google Drive. I also saved them on my hard drive just to have a backup. I depended on the SJSU iSchool website to match assignments to their associated competency. While I was creating the e-Portfolio, I used sample e-Portfolios provided via class as a reference of best practices.
