Erica Freudenberger, MLIS, works with libraries to create community-led change. She currently serves as the outreach, engagement, and marketing consultant at the Southern Adirondack Library System. She formerly led the Red Hook Public Library, and was a finalist for Library Journal's "Best Small Library Award," garnering five-star library ratings from 2013-2016. She is a 2016 Library Journal Mover and Shaker. At Thriving Libraries, LLC, she works with libraries to build resilient communities and sustainable libraries.
“There’s now a call to embrace what political scientists describe as radical empathy which is moving beyond an understanding of others’ lives and pain, to understanding the origins of our own biases. That involves being willing to embrace where you are, what biases and information you’re bringing to the table, opening up to others’ experiences, actively practicing empathy, and taking action from what we’ve heard, being willing to create change and build that trust.”
