S O C I A L

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” -Hebrews 10:24-25

The Importance of Community

Making room for others in our own hearts sustains and strengthens our faith. From the very beginning, God understood that it wasn't good for us to be alone. Our focus on the Christian social life is geared toward building relationships that allow us to experience a fulfilling and meaningful life that points to Christ. Below you will find the types of events and activities we hold throughout the year. Navigate to the calendar page to find when certain events are scheduled.

Alternating Weekly Meetings

Our Ministry meets every other Wednesday which will alternate between a social and spiritual focus. These weekly meetings are a great opportunity to stay connected with each other as we hear from different speakers, break out in small groups, eat food, and play games.

Sunday Brunch

When possible, we'll meet together after the 11am mass for brunch. The Paris Texas Platter at Kirby Lane Cafe is heavenly and inspirational. We will occasionally eat elsewhere.

The Chosen Viewing Party // Movie Nights

The Chosen is the first-ever-multi-season TV show about the life of Jesus. Created outside of the Hollywood system, The Chosen allows us to see Him through the eyes of those who knew him. Season 2 is on its way and we will be hosting viewing parties for it.

We will also have movie nights to watch films that correspond with what we've been learning through our weekly meetings or that is topical for the season we are in.

Sports Saturdays - Unorganized Sporting Events

Meet up for a pick-up game of soccer, basketball, kickball, ultimate frisbee, rugby (just kidding), a hike or any other activity we can come up with! No former sports experience required. Cleats, good tennis shoes, or hiking boots recommended. Join the SJN GroupMe for updates and more details.

Our current spring/summer plan is to meet at the Zilker Park Volleyball Courts at 10:00am on Saturdays (except the first Saturday of the month, you would know this if you joined the GroupMe).

Sporting Leagues - For the competitively inclined

We will be coordinating with other parishes around Austin to create leagues/tournaments for the following sports. It is our hope that these diocese-wide tournaments will bring young adults from all across Austin together so they may witness our superior athletic abilities.

  • Indoor Volleyball

  • Bowling

For the following sports and others (provided there is enough enthusiasm) we will join as a team in a recreational league in Austin.

  • Sand Volleyball

  • Basketball

  • Soccer
