The Importance of Service

Mother Teresa put it best when she said: "Love cannot remain by itself. It has no meaning. Love has to be put into action, and that action is service." As Young Adults we have a lot of love and a lot of energy. For those of you hoping to put that passion into action we have a list of service opportunities below. Get in touch with the service coordinators if you're interested or have any questions.

Austin Food Bank

When the Central Texas Food Bank was established in 1982, it was with a goal in mind to help the hungry in the community. Over the years, the weak economy has increased challenges for clients who have turned to food pantries for food assistance.

The Central Texas Food Bank has been at the front line of hunger relief with the help of Partner Agencies in 21 counties across Central Texas. Together, we provided more than 39.2 million pounds of food to families in need during the 2017-2018 fiscal year to an average of 200,000 individuals each month.

Caritas Snack Care Kit and Toiletry Kit

Caritas of Austin believes that when every person has a stable place to call home, they can realize their full potential and contribute to our community. We build wellbeing by making sure that people have a safe home, access to healthy groceries, jobs that provide a reliable living wage, and educational opportunities to learn life skills. All of us need a sturdy foundation and layers of support in our lives to thrive; that’s what creates a strong community. Our innovative, personalized and proven approach to building wellbeing and ending homelessness creates a more vibrant Austin for everyone.

Mobile Loaves and Fishes

Through the support of thousands of volunteers, Mobile Loaves & Fishes food trucks hit the streets of Austin 7 nights a week, 365 days a year to provide food, clothing and other life-sustaining items to homeless men and women who are struggling to survive. With more than 5.5 million meals served, MLF has grown to become the largest prepared feeding program to the homeless in Central Texas and has spawned similar food truck programs in other cities across the country.
