This little video is designed to give your child a snapshot into life at St. John's and to help continue the conversation around beginning school. Things you might like to talk about are:
Getting ready for school (uniform, lunch box, packing their school bag)
Saying goodbye and the morning drop off
Language for making friends or joining a group
Teachers are always there to help (outside the teacher will be wearing a yellow vest)
Learning and discovering is FUN FUN FUN!
Things we hope you notice as you watch this clip…
It is a space big enough for all preps to gather together
There are spaces for small targeted teaching groups
There are spaces that invite play, wonder and imagination
There are spaces that invite children to learn with all of their senses
There are spaces that are rich with educational materials (dice, counters, alphabet charts, paper, pencils etc. )
There are spaces that invite playful exploration of mathematics and literacy (shops etc.)
Learning questions and progressions are articulated and clearly displayed
The words that accompany our virtual tour are inspired by a poem called 'The Hundred Languages', by Loris Malaguzzi.
Malaguzzi is an educator, psychologist, and one of the founders of the Reggio Emilia approach to education.
