Welcome to Term 2
This term is shaping up to be busy, engaging and full of fun and learning.
Following our excursion to Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre at the end of last term, we are looking forward to engaging with our inquiry topic 90 Years Celebration. We will be exploring the questions:
- how do we belong to our land?
- how do we celebrate our land?
The focus is on Indigenous culture and history. St Joseph's continues to grow as part of a community with a rich Indigenous and multi-cultural heritage and our unit seeks to enable to us acknowledge and cherish both our past and present as we celebrate our 90 years.
Check out our Literacy, Mathematics, STEM and Religion pages to find out what's happening in each of these learning areas. Over the next week or so we will be preparing our year 3 students for NAPLAN. We will continue with our recorder sessions on Thursdays so please remind your children to bring their recorders to school as I know some of them have been taking them home to practise.
Weekly spelling will go out every Wednesday as usual and students have been asked to revise previously covered sound-letter relationships that they need to consolidate. The home expectation is that every student completes the following at least 4 nights of every week:
- reads for 20 minutes (ideally shared reading out loud with a parent/ sibling/ pet or Screencastify and listen to themselves read)
- 10 minutes on spelling
- 10 minutes on mathematics (MFacts/ Addition & Subtraction)
We are both very excited about the term ahead in the Middle School Learning Community and working with each and every one of our amazing students as part of their learning journey.
