Hello! My name is Misook Roh(Lisa), and I’m the Elementary KFL(Korean as a Foreign Language) teacher at SJA Jeju.
Teaching has been a lifelong passion of mine, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have spent over 20 years teaching both Korean and English to students from diverse backgrounds. I moved from Seoul to Jeju in 2019 to join this vibrant and supportive school community. Before that, I had the enriching experience of teaching Korean at a public secondary school in Malaysia.
In my classroom, I always strive to create a warm and engaging learning environment where students feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. I believe that every child brings their own strengths and unique voice, and I love helping them grow in confidence while discovering the joy of learning a new language.
My educational background reflects my deep interest in both teaching and understanding students. I hold a Master’s degree in Korean Education as a Foreign Language and am currently preparing for a Ph.D. I also have undergraduate degrees in Engineering (Earth Resources & Environmental Geotechnics), Child Development and Education, and Korean Education as a Foreign Language — along with teaching certifications in all three areas. I completed a TESOL course at Columbia College, and my interest in student well-being led me to become a certified psychological counselor.
Beyond the classroom, I enjoy expressing myself through the arts. I love drawing, have held exhibitions, and earned an Art Instructor Certification. I’ve also been playing the flute in an orchestra for over 10 years. These days, I’ve taken up horseback riding here in Jeju — a refreshing and exciting new hobby.
I’m truly looking forward to a joyful and meaningful year with all of you.

大家好!Hello everyone! My name is Li Wang, and I am delighted to be a part of the SJA community. Originally from Nanjing, China, I earned both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Arts from Nanjing Normal University. I am certified to teach both Chinese and English at the elementary school level.
For 17 years, I had the privilege of teaching Mandarin at Nanjing International School (NIS). During my time there, I instructed students from Pre-K to Grade 5, teaching Mandarin as both a first and second language in inclusive and streamed classroom settings. My experience spans across teaching Chinese and Units of Inquiry to students with varying language abilities, from absolute beginners to native speakers. I’ve had the pleasure of working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds, each bringing their unique learning styles to the classroom.
This is now my seventh year teaching at SJA, where I currently teach Chinese to native speakers from Grade 1 to Grade 5. My teaching philosophy centers on equipping students with the tools to confidently learn and use Mandarin, empowering them to engage meaningfully with the Chinese community. I am deeply committed to helping students adapt to Chinese culture and learning, and I take pride in my ability to support them in their transition.
Collaboration is a cornerstone of my approach, and I thoroughly enjoy working with my language and grade-level teams, as well as other faculty and support staff. The professional development opportunities I’ve had continue to enrich my teaching practices and allow me to contribute positively to our school culture.
I am excited to continue sharing my knowledge and experience with both new and familiar faces. With my background in Mandarin language and culture, I hope to be a valuable resource to the SJA community in the upcoming school year.

My name is Hailey Henak, and this is my ninteenth year as an elementary educator and my eleventh year teaching abroad. Growing up in Washington State, mountains and trees surrounded me, and I was always close to water. That is one of the many reasons I enjoy living on Jeju Island.
I earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood and elementary education from Central Washington University. I also have a TESOL certificate and an Instructional Leadership Certificate from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
I began as a homeroom teacher in a school near Seattle. Over eight years, I taught first, second, and third grades as a general education teacher. Realizing that my passion to learn and grow as a person could be expanded by the varied opportunities of international teaching. My first position was as an English Language Learner Specialist at KIS Jeju. While there, I worked across second, fourth, and fifth grades. In my next school, I worked as a Student Services Teacher at Nagoya International School in Nagoya, Japan. During my three years at NIS, I worked in Early Childhood and had the opportunity to learn about both the Primary Years Programme and the Reggio Emilia Approach, even traveling to Reggio Emilia to learn from the educators and children there in 2018. This is my sixth year teaching at SJA Jeju.
As an educator, I am passionate about supporting all children to become independent, reflective, and compassionate learners. As an EAL teacher at SJA for the last five years, I work with children at the beginning of the language learning journey and those who benefit from additional support. Providing a space for children to take risks in a safe and supportive environment is one of my professional passions.

My primary instruments are voice, guitar, and bass and I enjoy playing all kinds of instruments. I also coach cross country and track & field in the secondary school.
My favorite part of teaching is opening up the wonderful world of music to kids. Outside of work, I enjoy producing music, drinking good coffee, and riding my motorcycle. I’m a lucky teacher and I love what I do!

My name is Rob Dunger and I teach classroom music to grades 3, 4, and 5. I also direct our annual elementary school musical. My educational goal is to create a joyful and inclusive music environment where every student feels confident expressing themselves.
My teaching is rooted in the Kodály and Orff philosophies, which encourage students to learn music through singing, movement, instruments, and play. I believe music is a language every child can learn, and I love helping students find their voice, whether it is through singing, instrument playing, or expressive movement.
What brings me the most joy in teaching is watching students grow in confidence as they explore, discover, and learn music concepts. Music is more than performance. It is about connection, collaboration, and celebration.

Hello! My name is Lauren Baker (Ms. Lauren), and I am the Lower Elementary Art Teacher. I have been teaching art for 10 years now, and am excited to start my 11th year teaching here at SJA Jeju! I graduated with a degree in Art Education (PreK - Grade 12) from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2011, and hold a teaching certification in the United States from the State of Nebraska.
Although I am from the US, my teaching career has been internationally focused. I have taught art to students of all grade levels in Chiang Rai, Thailand; Casablanca, Morocco; and most recently, Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I enjoy drawing, painting, and pottery, but also have non-visual arts hobbies, such as knitting, hiking, camping, and playing the ukulele. Above all, I enjoy traveling and exploring the island of Jeju, as well as other parts of Korea.
As teachers, it is our role to prepare students to be successful in a world that is constantly changing, and I firmly believe that the tools for success are most readily available in the art room. Through exploration and inquiry in art, students learn to communicate, think both creatively and critically, and to work together collaboratively in order to solve problems and engage in self-expression. I draw from backgrounds in standards-based curriculum and IB curriculum to create units of study that allow students to explore and experiment with different artmaking materials and techniques. We then take these skills and apply them to large-scale projects that allow students to express and communicate ideas about themselves and the world around them.
I am excited to get to know you and your students throughout this year, and welcome any communication or questions from you about our activities and what we are working on in the art room!
