  • 2017 February to December - Management & Operations
    • HERi builds and supports solar businesses in rural Madagascar to increase access to products and services that power community development. HERi has 150 kiosks in Madagascar. As HERi was in a critical restructuring phase, Siyu's consultant acted as interim Head of Operations to streamline the existing processes and setup systems and controls in place to make the company's operations more efficient. The scope included supply chain management, logistics, rural marketing, financial processes, administration and last-mile delivery.


  • 2016 - 2017 November to March - GravitArt Gallery - Startup
    • GravitArt is an online art gallery which provides the opportunity for art lovers and collectors to explore and buy stunning African art. Siyu and a partner founded the Gallery and setup the foundation of the project. Siyu left the partnership to pursue a different opportunity.


  • 2016 June to November - Rasello - Business Development & Strategy
    • Rasello is a cloud-based analytical, database management and communication software company with offices in Tanzania, Nepal and Singapore. Rasello works with customers across various industries and sectors and provides both off-the-shelf and custom platform solutions for targeted messaging, data collection, feedback and reporting. Siyu consulted for Rasello to support, develop and implement its growth strategies in East Africa.

    • An entrepreneur wanted to understand the events industry better to find an entry and niche into the market for floral design and cakes.



  • 2016 August to November - GIZ Lab of Tomorrow - Market Research & Business Model Design
    • Siyu has been appointed to lead the market research for one project within the Lab of Tomorrow GIZ programme. The Lab of Tomorrow is part of the“Digital Africa” strategic partnership of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The scope of this project is to improve access to medicine and diagnostics by developing a mobile communication platform for healthcare delivery services in emerging markets. The research focused on a customer-centric approach to the development and roll-out of this mobile application, the principal customers being doctors and patients.


  • 2016 June Amador Guallar - Transcription & Translation French/English
    • After shooting a documentary in the Central African Republic, the content had to be transcribed and then translated from French to English.


  • 2015 - 2016 Sleeping Warrior Lodge - Rebranding & Digital Marketing Strategy
    • The Sleeping Warrior Camp & Lodge is situated in the Soysambu Conservancy, by the Lake Elementaita in Kenya. They currently run two facilities, the Camp and the Lodge. Siyu has helped them rebrand the Camp, create a website for the Camp and revamp the Lodge's website. We also developped a digital marketing strategy covering the various social media streams used by The Sleeping Warrior. Finally, we develop tools and systems (e.g. KPI trackers, How To Guides) as well as build the local capacity to ensure the sustainability of the project.

    • Financial administration for sisal plantation of 33,000 acres and 1,200 staff


  • 2007 Africa Expeditions Ltd. Nairobi, Kenya
    • 3 months rotations, Field Camp Services
    • Running 60-unit Hotel California in Lokichokio in North-Western Kenya as stand-in for the regular manager
    • Built, on "turn-key" basis, a 40-unit luxury tented camp at Nabanga near the Congo border in South Sudan (Camp established to accommodate over 60 delegates attending peace talks held between the Ugandan government and the LRA. Camp sponsored by Government of South Sudan and UNOCHA, situated 15 km from indicted war criminal Joseph Kony’s extremely remote base of operations)
    • Management of a 30-unit mobile tented camp situated in a recently demilitarised war zone at Kajo Keji in South Sudan, 200 km south of Juba near the Uganda border. Under contract from the UN, we accommodated 30 expatriate members of a road de-mining group from a South African company, Mechem.
    • Management of a 30 people camp in Wau in Barh el Gazal State, South Sudan for Mechem
    • Management of 25-unit camp in Ethiopia at Chereti in the Ogaden, for Lundin Petroleum of Sweden. This camp is still fully operational.


  • 2006 Kipini Hospitality Ltd - Kipini Conservancy, Tana River Delta, Kenya
    • General management of Kipini Conservancy (77,000 acres) called Nairobi Ranch on the Tana River Delta. Employed 15 scouts focusing on anti-poaching duties. Supervision of the building of a super luxury 5-tent camp. Project imploded for for various legal reasons in mid-January 2007.

  • 2001 – 2003 Fairview Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya
    • Consultant Manager, ensuring all hotel's operational controls were fully effective, running the hotel's maintenance department


  • 2000 African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (Kenya) Ltd – Giraffe Centre, Nairobi, Kenya.
    • 9-month contract, successfully set up administrative systems of control to stop theft of cash, joined Board of Directors of the Fund and subsequently served as chairman of its Finance Committee. The systems introduced are still in effect.


  • 1998 – 1999 Computech Ltd. Nairobi, Kenya
    • 12-month consultancy with Kenya’s leading dealer in Hewlett Packard computers and printers. Supervision of the split-up of the company into two divisions, responsible for setting up new systems and controls at the mother company, Computech Ltd. Overseeing the writing of software programmes and its implementation for a computerised Help Desk to improve workshop efficiency. Successful division of the company.


  • 1997 Metchem (E.A.) Ltd. Nairobi, Kenya
    • 12-month consultancy and to assist the management of this chemical trading and indenting business at a time when the managing director was heavily committed on other matters


  • 1995 – 1997 Sekenani Camp, Maasai Mara, Kenya
    • Initially hired to support management during the busy Christmas period. Was subsequently contracted to completely reorganise operations and implement rigorous management systems.


  • 1994 – 1995 Tortillis Camp, Amboseli, Kenya
    • Contracted to complete construction of a new 30-bed first class camp in Amboseli National Park, employ staff and set up all systems and operations on a professional basis within a critical time constraint due to serious delays in the completion of the building


  • 1993 – 1994 CNN International
    • Unit Manager in Mogadishu, Somalia and then Assistant Producer in Nairobi for organising transport of personnel and supplies to the existing TV crews in Mogadishu, and co-ordinating all CNN activities for East and Central Africa


  • 1991 – 1993 Pinewood Village, Diani, South Coast, Kenya
    • Contracted to complete the construction of a new 100-bed first class hotel and manage day-to-day operations. Managing all aspects of the hotel including bookings, purchasing and accounts. Supervision of 65 members of staff.


  • 1991 Africa Expeditions Ltd, Kenya
    • Management of a 25-man camp for expatriate oil explorers in the Ogaden desert in Ethiopia for three months until the Ethiopian government was toppled, and evacuated the camp back to base at Dire Dawa
    • Built and run Afex's first camp in Lokichokio, Northern Kenya, until it was closed down after several months for political reasons.


  • 1990 - 1991 Kiwayu Safari Village, Lamu, Kenya
    • Running the camp and full control of operations of this 40-bed exclusive and remote beach resort situated on the north coast, 40 kms south of the Somalia border.


  • 1989 - 1990 Kipungani Sea Breezes, Lamu, Kenya
    • Building a 30-bed hotel on the north-western side of Lamu island, employing all staff and set up all operations. This hotel is now one of the prime properties of Heritage Hotels.
