Yuanjie Zheng

I am a Senior Research Investigator serving both the PICSL lab (led by Dr. James Gee) and the Penn Vision Research Center (VRC) at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn). I am the primary lead for the image analysis core of the VRC. My research is in the fields of computer vision, computational photography, medical image analysis and machine learning. I have experienced in research involving image segmentation, image matting, camera calibration, image registration, object recognition, quantitative imaging biomarkers, characterization and validation of imaging biomarkers, risk prediction, semi-supervised learning, and reconstruction of 3-D structures from 2-D images. My ultimate goal is to enhance patient care by creating algorithms for automatically quantifying and generalizing the information latent in various medical images for tasks such as disease analysis and surgical planning, through the applications of computer vision and machine learning approaches to medical image analysis tasks and development of strategies for image-guided intervention/surgery.

I received my Ph.D from the Inst. Image Processing & Pattern Recognition in Shanghai Jiaotong Unversity in 2006. My adviser is  Dr. Jie Yang.

Before joining Upenn, I worked as an intern from 2004 to 2006 at Microsoft Research Asia mentored by Dr. Stephen Lin and also advised by Dr. Sing Bing Kang. I also spent 2006 as a postdoctoral researcher at UPenn with Dr. Dinggang Shen, 2007 and 2008 as a limited-term researcher with Dr. Chandra Kambhamettu in Computer Science Department of the University of Delaware.
