    Welcome to homepage of Zhendong zhao . 

    Computer Science Master student, classical music, especially opera amateur (Although I cannot sing Opera), computer geeks and open source advocator. This is me. Currently, I am studying in National University of Singapore. Many of my researches involved in Multimedia Information Retrieval, Large-Scale Machine Learning Algorithm and Data Mining etc.

   The current project of my research topic involved in designing of parallel machine learning algorithms, which are suitable for large-scale data set processing, in turn building a distributed large-scale Multimedia information retrieval system within Hadoop

   Currently, I am working on a Sequential SVM solver based on Pegasos for Mahout (issue Mahout-232), which is a machine learning toolkit based on Hadoop to address large-scale classification.

  •   Sequential SVM solver for Large-Scale data set classification.     Nov.2009 ~ Present  

Currently, I am working on Sequential SVM solver based on Pegasos for Mahout, which is a sub-project of Hadoop to address large-scale data set.
  • Automatic tagging & Tag propagation for large-scale music data set.  Jun. 2009 ~ Present
Both the data-driven and model-driven approaches are considered to address this issue. I am focused on investigating and designing parallel algorithms to handle large-scale multimedia, in particular, music data sets.

  • Sensor-assisted motion estimation for efficient video encoding. Jun. 2008 ~ May. 2009

  •  Improvement of SVM training methods     OCT.2006 ~ Jan.2008 

  1. We propose a new model for SMO decomposition methods for training SVM. Experiments prove that our method is generally faster than other existing methods.

  2. One paper has been accepted by IEEE International Conference on Tools with Artificial Intelligence (ICTAI).

  • Improvements of Particle Swarm Optimizer(PSO) Jun.2006 ~ Jan.2009

  1. We focus on the improving the performance of PSO algorithm, both in combinational and functional optimization, as well as on solve some real-world problems, for instance, codebook design in Vector Quantization.

  • Research on detecting and controlling P2P flow   July 2004 ~ April. 2008

  1. This work was performed with the support of the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China(863 Program) under Grant NO.2006AA01Z232 and NO.2005AA121620. This work focus on extracting the features from payments of P2P applications and constructing the behavioral model(connection model, resource detecting model, transportation model) of mainstream P2P software. With these features, we employ some machine learning methods to detect corresponding flows and in turn, to control them.

  • Data acquisition unit of electric meters under Linux Nov. 2005 ~ Dec. 2006

  1. This instrument collects data from electric meters in residents' home. By incorporate Linux and embedded system, this collector works efficiently and stably to accomplish the task.

  • A platform for net devices manager based on B/S architecture Nov. 2004 ~ Jun. 2005

  1. Users can utilize this platform to obtain the information of network device through web browser such as: firefox or Microsoft IE. My work is to design this architecture and to take charge of those models: Net devices information acquisition engine, Database access model.

  • Demo system of mobile communication technology Oct. 2003 ~ Sept. 2004

  1. This demo system includes GMSK modulation and demodulation models, Random code generator, spread spectrum communication model. It demonstrates the principle of some technologies about mobile communication.

  2. 1st prize of in “Innovation Cup” Science and Technology Competition in Nanjing University of Posts & Telecommunications 2003

  • DES Encryption Equipment using DSPs(TI TMS3205402) Aug. 2003 ~ Sept. 2004

  1. We design the hardware of this equipment and port the DES encryption algorithm on it.

  • Fault Detection and Location system of Closed Circuit Television(CCTV)  Oct. 2002 ~ Sept. 2003

  1. This system can detect the fault of CCTV network automatically, and can locate the fault points and send the information to administrator quickly. To avoid rebuilding the CCTV network, this system just incorporates some simple and low-price device to achieve these goals.
