TURNER STREET CENTER

The first Walmart in the Lewiston/Auburn area opened on that parcel across the Auburn Mall years ago. Home Depot later opened a store at the left of Walmart. Nothing really changed until Walmart relocated across the street to a new, larger Supercenter. The old store remained vacant until 2005 when the announcement was made that Kohl's would acquire the property. The existing store was demolished and rebuilt as an 88,600 sq.ft. Kohl's.

Best Buy was to be part of the project. They originally announced that they would open there but finally decided to open a store nearby at the Mount Auburn Plaza. Available pads sites on the property are located along Mount Auburn Avenue. At some point there were rumors about a future Red Robins restaurant.

In June 2006, Kohl's was almost ready as the new center was taking shape. A large pylon sign was put up on the property entrance, it was showing the center’s original name: Mt.Auburn Plaza. However, another new center across the street also had that name. The company eventually renamed the plaza Turner Street Center.

A Hobby Lobby was built on the adjacent lot. It was joined by a Starbucks and Lamey-Wellehan shoe store.
