DIAMOND RUN MALL

  • Address: Route 4
  • City: Rutland, VT
  • Opening date: 1994

For the state of Vermont, the Diamond Run Mall is an unusually sprawling shopping mall. It has 451,000 sq.ft. of space and 383,000 sq.ft of leasing space.

Diamond Run Mall opened in 1994 becoming the largest mall in Rutland. Its competitor the struggling Rutland Mall later closed. KB Toys moved from the Rutland Mall to the Diamond Run Mall in late 1995. Diamond Run Mall was initially anchored by Sears, JCPenney and Kmart.

In 2014, Sears announced the closure of the Rutland store. In 2015 another huge blow to the mall occurred with the closing of JCPenney. The mall still struggles but has filled the JCPenney space with LaFlamme's Furniture. Bj's wholesale was a possible replacement for one of the two vacant anchor spaces but opted to propose to build a new store across the street. After the project was ruled acceptable, Diamond Run Mall appealed the decision. Bj's then withdrew their project due to mounting legal costs.

Early in January 2018, it was announced that Kmart would close by April. Bath & Body Works closed its doors on March 24th 2018.
