The IRS Letter "CP 14" is sent to you because the IRS has determined you owe money on unpaid taxes. IRS Notice CP14 is a Notice of Tax Due and Demand for Payment. It is the most common notice that the IRS sends out to taxpayers and, if not responded to within five weeks, is typically followed by the CP501 Notice.
The CP14 is the notice described in Internal Revenue Code § 6303, which requires the IRS — within 60 days of assessing a tax — to send taxpayers a notice of how much tax they owe and demand that they pay it.
