January 1, 2011
Congratulations to all the runners who braved the frigid temperatures to run the Inauguarl Yukon Do It! Marathon and Half-Marathon.  We started with fog hanging low over the waters obstructing views of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and the Olympic Mountains.  Just after 10:00 a.m., the fog began to lift.  The full marathoners were treated to sunny skies and spectacular views.
Results and pictures will be posted soon!  Marathon results will be posted on and here.

12/28/10  updates:
To avoid any issues with the gambling commision, I will NOT be able to "raffle" any prizes to those who donate...sorry!  We WILL be giving out random prizes, however, including two massages from Be Hive Massage in Tacoma, a hoodie from Moon Dogs, Too and surprise presents left over from Christmas.
AWARDS will be given out to first overall and first master, male and female at 11:30 for the half-marathon and 1:30 for the full marathon.  Age group awards will be handed out as they are processed.  Please check the posted results to see if you won an age group award.
PARKING:  There is limited (about 60 spaces) inside the park.  Additional parking will be at the SK Little Leage field off of Hilldale.  The gate is to your right as you turn onto Hilldale.  We will have someone at the gate throughout the day but are not responsible if any damage or theft occurs during the event.
SHIRTS:  We will have a t-shirt order form available on race morning.  If we get at least 20 sign-ups, we can place an order for shirts that can either be mailed or picked up at Route 16 in Gig Harbor.  Day of race shirt cost is $15 to help offset shipping costs.
12/26/10 update:
Packets will be available for pickup Wednesday, December 29th from 3:00 pm. to 7:00 p.m. and Thursday, December 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Route 16 Running in Gig Harbor.  Packets can also be picked up on race morning at the start.

  • Route 16 Running of Gig Harbor is letting us use their timing equipment and providing bibs.  Be sure and stop by the store and check out their gear for running and walking.  Miguel Galeanea and his staff have extensive knowledge about the sport and are eager to answer your questions and get you equipped for the road or trail.
  • Narrows Bridge Running Club has turned my little idea of a last chance marathon for 2010 into reality.  This would have been impossible without NBRC's help.
12/22/10 updates:
In case you haven't looked at the website in a while and/or you are not on Facebook to keep up with all the exciting new information, these are the things that have changed since we first created the event and website:
  • Medals: Yes, we will have wooden "medals" with the race logo thanks to Marathon Maniac Steve Walters.
  • Shirts: We offered long sleeve unisex cotton shirts for sale but that option has passed.  There will be few if any shirts available for sale on race day.
  • Photography:  Adam Leahy Photography will be capturing memories on race day...thank you, Adam!
  • Race Course:  The first turnaround will be near the intersection of Beach Drive and Bay Street.  The turnaround for the marathon will be after Cornell and back onto Southworth Drive.  Any mileage lost by not running to Waterfront Park downtown will be made up within Manchester State Park.
  • Sponsors:  We have businesses that are stepping up to help make this event even better!
  • MoonDogs, Too Bay Street is offering a 20% discount to runners who show them their bibs after the race.  Join other runners for some after-race fun at Moon Dogs, Too!  They are also giving the overall winners of the marathon hoodies and the half-marathon will get $20 gift certificates.  We have a third hoodie to be given away to one of the runners.
  • Be Hive Massage is offering 30% off pre-race day massage for all participants.  She is also donating two massages to be given away race day.
  • Lodging:  If you're racing from out of town, you may want to check out Comfort Inn on Bay Street in Port Orchard.  It's located 5.5 miles from the start and just down the road from the first turnaround downtown.  The hotel is offering a 10% discount to all runners who call in and mention the Yukon Do It! race.  Their phone number is 360-895-8088.
  • Manchester State Park is also a campground.  That's as close to the start as you can get.
  • Online results can be found at January 3rd!

Top 3 in each age like chocolate, right?
MOONDOGS TOO will be presenting special awards to overall winners!

Course:  Run along beautiful Beach Drive in Port Orchard and back towards Yukon Harbor and return to Manchester State park.  Georgeous!
The race course is OPEN to traffic.  Please be alert to all traffic and consider wearing reflective and/or bright clothing.  There will be a lead bike and another volunteer to follow the runners.  Always use caution and treat this as you would any long run.

**Backpack for Kids  **

30% of children in the South Kitsap School District rely on free or reduced price lunches at their schools. For some of these kids, this is the most nutritional meal they receive all day. Some of these kids have little or no food to eat on the weekends.  Backpacks for Kids is a weekend food program that works with the South Kitsap School District and The Boys and Girls Club to help feed children from financially struggling homes.

Start/Finish location:
Manchester State Park
7767 E. Hilldale
Port Orchard, Washington   98366
Marathon Course Link (the course is mostly accurate, but I will be changing it to accomodate for safety, etc., so be watching for updates!  )
Half-Marathon Course (may be slightly different on race day, but you get the idea):
Marathon Maniacs:
Is this a certified course?  Nope.  We have gone over the course with Garmins repeatedly if that makes you feel better.
Is this a Boston Qualifier?  It's not certified,
Will I get a t-shirt?  You can order a tee-shirt for an additional $10.  Tee-shirts are no longer available.  There may be some available on race day, but in very limited numbers.
So what is my fee going towards?  We'll supply on course water and Accelerade or other replacement drink as well as Gu.
There will be yummy food and drink at the finish line.
Will this count toward Marathon Maniac stats?
As long as we have at least 5 starters and 3 finishers for the full marathon, it will count.  The Half-Fanatics need 20 half starters and 15 finishers.
How long is this marathon?  Ha-ha!  26.2 miles...again!
And the half?  Really?  13.1 miles
Is there a time limit?  3:00 p.m. or until the volunteers' toes fall off from frostbite.  It is NEW YEAR'S EVE so I won't keep the volunteers from their super glamorous parties.
