COAST TO COAST BIKE RIDE - MARCH 21ST 2014
York TOW have just completed their second Coast to Coast challenge, this time the team went the Way of the Roses,  from Morecambe to Bridlington, 180 miles over the Pennines and then through the Vale of York.  Eight team members including one novice rider on a tandem, completed the route in three days and journeyed through all that Mother Nature could throw at them.  Club chairman Neil Hudson said "We undertook this bike ride knowing that the weather could turn against us.... And it did.... Hail, sleet, driving rain and a head wind all went to make this our hardest challenge by far".
The club raised approximately £2,000 to be donated to The Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The Tug of War season starts on Sunday 30th March 2014, with York's first event being held at the Yorkshire Heart Brewery, Nun Monkton.

Countryside Live - Harrogate 2013

For once the weather held and apart from two small showers, the pullers from around the county of Yorkshire stayed dry as the weights were contested for the Yorkshire Championship 2013.

The teams on the day were, York TOWC, Pennine YFC, Silsden with Skipton, Upper Wharfedale YFC, Eskdale Cross YFC, Diesel Power TOWC, Stanfordham YFC, Longridge YFC and Felliscliff YFC.

The juniors started the proceedings with Felliscliff YFC beating Silsden within Wharfedale in two straight ends. The ladies followed and York ladies powered to first place without losing an end, Pennine YFC took second place.

The men's weights started with the 600k which produced some really hard pulling for all the teams, Longridge YFC and York battled for what seemed like a age, York eventually took the end and then the second, to win the weight, Longridge YFC took the second place.

The 640k again drew a fine battle from York and Longridge and this time, Longridge were able to lift York out and won the weight, with York closely following behind them.

The next discipline was the 4x4 660k, the outcome seemed inevitable with York being the team that represented England and won silver place in August at the UKs in Perth. York showed the crowd of onlookers that they had not lost the magic touch as they won the weight without losing any ground, Eskdale Cross YFC took the silver place.

The next weight was the 680k, it's often called the young farmers weight, as this is the weight that they pull in the national young farmers competition earlier in the year and its always hotly contested for. Upper Wharfedale YFC  entered the fray for the first time after staying on the sideline. Again York took the lead, beating all that the young farmers could throw at them, York took the gold and upper Wharfedale came in second.

Last but by no means least, the catchweight. One powerful end after another was produced, but the end result was the same, York took gold to complete a very successful day after beating the strong heavy  teams from Stanfordham YFC and Eskdale Cross YFC, Upper Wharfedale YFC 2nd place and Longridge YFC

York's England Glory

We went to Perth and the UK Championship to do the white shirt with the red rose on it justice, and by god we did,
Personally, my chest swelled with pride when i put that England shirt on, and when I picked that rope up I was determined to do my best.
England B walked through the group stages without really been pushed by any of the other teams, Scotland A were drawn against us in the semi - final and again we made short work of that.  England A came to life in the final and in four dramatic and heart stopping ends, we eventually had to settle for silver, i was gutted...... however, considering we went there with the thought that a medal would be great , coming away with the silver medal was a great achievement for York TOWC. Once again team, we pulled together (literally) well done, you made me proud.
