My family loves these Cut-Out Cookies, a recipe handed down from my Mom
I don't care for crunchy/hard cookies, these stay nice and soft.
2 Cups Sugar
1 Cup Margarine
1 Cup Sour Cream
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 tsp. Vanilla Extract
1/2 tsp. Salt
5-6 Cups Flour
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
In a large bowl, cream together margarine, sugar and eggs. Stir in sour cream, baking soda, salt and vanilla. Gradually add your flour, using only enough to make dough stiff enough
to roll. Chill cookie dough for 1/2 hour, roll dough to 1/4" thick and using your favorite cookie cutters, cut out your cookies.
Bake 8-10 minutes until lightly browned on bottom. Cool completely...then frost.
Buttercream Frosting Recipe
1/2 Cup Shortening
1/2 Cup Butter
1 tsp. Vanilla or Almond Extract
4 - 4 1/2 Cups Confectioner's Sugar
2 Tbsp. Milk
Whip butter & shortening with mixer until light and creamy. Add your extract of choice (others may be substituted), mix. Gradually add confectioner's sugar, alternating with milk.
Beat with mixer until light and fluffy. Use a few drops of food coloring to tint frosting.
